Kokoda Track Maps
Here are some of the orginial sketch maps that were used by the troops on the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea in 1942.
The first map is a plan sketch that includes Sanananda, Buna, Poppendetta Wirerope, Gorari, Oivi and most importantly, Kokoda Village where Our Spirit begins the trek along the Kokoda Track.
The second map commences in Kokoda Village and leads to Templeton's Crossing along the original war track through Deniki, Isurava (where the famous four monuments offer respect to the digger's who fought on the Kokoda Track with courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice), Alola and Eora Creek.
Starting at Templeton's Crossing, the third sectional sketch continues along the Kokoda Track to Myola then Efogi and Menari before arriving at Nauro.
The fourth and final map commences in Nauro Village following the original Kokoda War Track through the Maguli Range, Ioribaiwa and Imita Range before finishing at Owers Corner where participants usually take a celebratory photo under the Memorial Archway to mark the completion of their Kokoda journey.
